The Honourable Commissioner For Transport
Chief Hon. Ibinabo Michael West was born to the family of Late Michael and Mrs. Monoba West in Asari Tori, Buguma, Rivers State. He attended Baptist High School, Port Harcourt, before proceeding to Rivers State University of Science and Technology now known as Rivers State University to study a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education (Secretarial Studies).
His passion and love for education made him pursue a Master’s degree in Business Administration (Marketing) and a L.L.B degree in International Humanitarian Law at Rivers State University of Science and Technology.
In 2003, He contested for the constituency sit representing Asari-Toru 2, and was duly elected as an Honorable member in Rivers State House of Assembly.
During his tenure as an assembly member, Hon. Ibinabo Michael West embarked on numerous constituency projects such as the renovation of Community Primary School Angulama and renovation of the Principal’s office at Angulama Community Secondary School. He also constructed several town halls and meeting halls such as Omekwe/Horsefall Compound Meeting Hall, Charles-Wokoma Compound Meeting Hall, West Compound Meeting Hall, Ateigoba Meeting Halls, amongst others.
He was responsible in providing Omekwe Ama community and Sama community in Asari Tori a 76KVA generator set each for electrification and power generation. Through his personal effort, he was able to get Niger Delta Development Commission to provide a 500KVA generator set for electrification and power generation at Emekwe Tari Ama Community in Asari Tori.
As a philanthropist, Hon. West has given countless scholarship to students in his constituency and provided empowerment support initiatives for widows, youths, aged men and women. He established an ICT centre in Abalama for the development of human capacity training and development. The ICT centre also serves neighboring communities outside Asalga.
Due to the role he contributed to the development of his constituency and his legislative dexterity he was conferred with,” Development in Nigeria Merit Award” (DINMA). He also received an award in “Excellency” by Rotary Club, Port Harcourt Branch. Because of his tremendous effort in developing his constituency, he was conferred with the royal award of Amayanabo of Kalabari land.
After serving two consecutive terms in the assembly, Hon. Michael West stepped down to give way for other candidates to represent their constituency.
In 2012, He became a Director at Mapen Oil and Technical Service Limited, an oil servicing and dredging company.
In 2014 He lost in the PDP governorship primary to his Excellency, Barrister Nyesom Wike and came third out of 24 Aspirants.
