In order to address the myriad of housing challenge in the state, history was made in 2008, when the Rivers State administration under his Excellency, then the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Rt, Hon, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi created the Ministry of Housing out of the defunct Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development to address the magnitude of housing problems in the state especially among the Civil Servants and others.
The Ministry of Housing is therefore at the forefront of the philosophy of the present administration and is charged with the following vision, mission, and mandates stated.
“Our mandate is to provide a minimum of four thousand (4,000) units of social Housing annually, sites and services scheme and create enabling environment for the private sector participation in Housing Delivery in Rivers State”
“Our vision is to provide Indigenes and Residents of Rivers State access to Decent and Affordable Housing Accommodation”
“Our mission is to ensure the delivery/provision of decent and affordable housing for all in Rivers State in partnership with the private sector”
