In order to
address the myriad of housing challenge in the state, history was made in 2008,
when the Rivers State administration under his Excellency, then the Executive
Governor of Rivers State, Rt, Hon, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi created the Ministry
of Housing out of the defunct Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development
to address the magnitude of housing problems in the state especially among the
Civil Servants and others.
The Ministry of Housing is therefore at the forefront of the philosophy of the present administration and is charged with the following vision, mission, and mandates stated.
MANDATE/OBJECTIVE:
“Our mandate
is to provide a minimum of four thousand (4,000) units of social Housing
annually, sites and services scheme and create enabling environment for the
private sector participation in Housing Delivery in Rivers State”
CORE VALUES:
a)
To ensure that all indigenes and inhabitants are afforded the
opportunity to own or have easy access to decent, safe and sanitary housing
accommodation with secure tenure.
b)
Develop and implement a strategy to encourage private sector
participation in the Housing delivery.
c)
Encourage and promote the active participation of federal and
local government in housing provision in the state.
d)
To strengthen institutions within the Housing sector to render and
make their operations more responsive to the housing demand of the citizenry.
e)
Emphasize housing investment which satisfies basic need and
provide site and services scheme.
